Bothered by your misaligned smile? You should consider orthodontic services at Piney Orchard Dental. But must I wear train track braces? It’s not 1995! Since then, dentistry has come a long way, and today you can enjoy clear aligners to straighten your teeth with comfort and speed. If you are in Odenton, Maryland, please schedule an appointment with Dr. Trevor Greene to experience our metal-free method of straightening teeth.

Patient-Friendly Orthodontics with Adult Braces

As an adult, you can now straighten your teeth without undergoing years of orthodontic treatment with traditional braces. Clear aligners are popular with adults because they offer numerous benefits, including:

  • Clear aligners don’t alter the way you clean your teeth, as you can simply remove the trays to brush and floss
  • Clear aligners are invisible
  • Clear aligners are gentle and comfortable on your cheeks and gums
  • Clear aligners can function as nightguards, protecting your teeth from grinding
  • There are no dietary restrictions, as you can remove the trays to eat
  • They often straighten your teeth faster than traditional braces

What Malocclusion Challenges Can Clear Aligner Orthodontics Correct?

A crooked smile not only mars your appearance but also yields numerous oral health challenges. If left untreated, a misaligned smile may lead to tooth decay and TMJ disorder problems. Luckily, adults who want to straighten their smiles don’t have to choose metal braces. Clear teeth aligners can correct your orthodontic challenges with removable, minimally invisible trays. This option is discreet and more comfortable.

Whether you opt for Invisalign, SureSmile, or ClearCorrect, clear aligner orthodontics can correct numerous issues, including:

  • Underbite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Overbite
  • Crossbite
  • Crowded teeth

How Do Clear Orthodontic Aligners Work?

Clear aligners straighten teeth the same way as traditional braces by applying controlled pressure on the teeth to move them into the desired position. However, clear aligners use minimally invisible trays instead of metal brackets and wires. The trays are created from BPA-free plastic and are completely metal-free.

If you want to straighten your teeth with clear aligners, the process is simple. The first step is to book a consultation with Dr. Greene. He evaluates your dental health to ensure you are free from cavities and gum disease, and he will analyze your tooth position to see if you are a candidate for clear aligners. If you are eligible for clear aligners, the rest of the steps involve:

  • Digital scans: Our dental team takes easy 3D photos of your teeth and feeds the images into specialized computer software that maps out your treatment plan. This way, you can see how your teeth will move into alignment even before treatment begins.
  • Fabrication: Once we send the digital scans of your dentition to a dental lab, the technicians 3D print customized trays designed to fit snugly over your top and bottom teeth.
  • Wear trays: You will wear each set of straightening trays at least 20-22 hours a day for 2 weeks. You will then move to the next set of trays, and this pattern continues until the desired alignment is attained.  Each set of trays gently moves your teeth a bit closer to perfection.  You will continue to see Dr. Greene every 4 to 6 weeks as he evaluates the movement of your teeth to make sure everything is done in a safe, proper manner.

If you wear your aligners as directed, you will see dramatic changes in the position of your teeth. The treatment period depends on the compliance with usage and the severity of your misalignment, but often takes from 6 months up to a year and a half.
